Take
control of your natural gas prices
|
As of December 2007, the United States
had 120 marketers licensed to serve residential customers, of which
91 were actively serving customers or enrolling new customers. For
simplification purposes, the term “marketer” is used to refer to a
variety of competitive retail residential natural gas suppliers.
These are defined here:
Aggregator / Core
Transport Agent – a person
or entity that contracts with a pool of retail customers and
supplies their gas load on an aggregated basis.
Broker / Retail
Agent – a person or entity
that assumes the contractual and legal responsibility for the sale
and supply of gas to a retail customer without ever owning the gas
itself.
Marketer
– a person or entity that assumes the contractual and legal
responsibility for the sale and supply of gas to a retail customer
while also owning the gas at some point during the transaction.
It is important to note that some States
may use different terminology to describe competitive retail natural
gas suppliers. The following table provides a summary of how many
natural gas marketers are currently licensed and active, and
provides links for more information about specific States. Be
cautious in changing suppliers, especially if, by changing you are
asked to lock in a one or two year commitment. Often these offers
are made in your mailbox when natural gas supply prices are about to
drop. If they drop, you may wish you had remained with your current
supplier, with no contract, with the expectation that your
price might be reduced. Right now, early March 2009, natural gas
prices are about 1/3 what they were in December of 2005. At that
time the natural gas retail suppliers petitioned the states for
steep price increases.

www.SaveOnUtilities.com.
has been developing for months. But the actual construction of this
site was begun on February 11, 2009.
The site will be THE
comprehensive site for consumers, showing them the myriad of
ways they can save on their utility expense.
This column will be available to
those wishing to advertise their utility, their product, or
their service. Contact us at:
trimutilities@aol.com
to arrange for your ad. The site will be substantially completed
within a month, but if you wait until that moment, space may
well be taken. This is the time to strike a deal for a bargain
ad. We have posted the site early for this purpose. |
