  • telephone

  • Identification

  • Pay stubs or other financial documents for each family member

  • social security cards for each family member

  • gas bill

  • electric bill

Step One

Find your state http://www.acf.hhs.gov/programs/ocs/liheap/grantees/states.html

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a grant program set aside by the government for low income households. They supply funds for electric and gas bills.

Step Two

See if you meet the income guidelines for assistance by either checking the website or calling the office in your state.

Step Three

Make an appointment as soon as possible since funds run out quickly.

Step Four

Take your identification (driver's license), proof of income (usually 30 days) such as check stubs for all members of your household, social security cards for all members of your household, gas and electric bills.

Mark your calendar and keep this very important appointment. Help may be on the way!
